Getting to Strasbourg

Strasbourg, the capital of France’s Alsace region, is located in the heart of Europe and can be reached by car, bus, train or plane. We certainly recommend you to choose the most eco-friendly option for your travels. Traveling by train or bus is a much greener choice than flying and can significantly reduce your carbon footprint!

  1.

Trains are a fast and sustainable way to arrive in Strasbourg. There are daily direct trains linking some of the biggest cities in France and Europe to Strasbourg. The main train station in Strasbourg is Gare Centrale, but you might also consider stopping at the train station in Kehl, as this German border town is well connected to Strasbourg by tramway and bus.

You can get more information about train travel options directly from the main travel operators’ websites or on the platform Trainline

Train connections are available from Strasbourg-Entzheim Airport (7 minutes) as well as neighbouring airports such as EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg (approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes) and Paris Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport (approximately 2 hours).

    Train station assistance

For the participants coming to Strasbourg by private bus, a large parking space for buses will be set up close to the European Parliament. To use the parking, the head of group has to make a request via the helpline.

There are bus connections to Strasbourg from lots of European cities. Many international bus companies offer trips to Strasbourg at affordable prices. You can check the bus connections between your city and Strasbourg via Busradar or Trainline.

AROUND STRASBOURG

Getting around the city and its surroundings is easier than you might think! There is a wide range of alternative modes of transport to minimise car use, making the city greener and more enjoyable for everyone. You can hop on a tram or bus, take a bike or scooter or walk.

  1.

The city of Strasbourg and its suburbs benefit from a highly efficient tram and bus public transport system. The local public transport operator, Compagnie des Transports Strasbourgeois (CTS), offers easy and fast connections.

A tram stop (Parlement Européen) is located right in front of the Parliament and two other tram stations (Wacken and Droits de l’Homme) are situated within walking distance from the Parliament.

You will find plenty of practical information on the CTS website about:

    • Tram and bus lines (network maps, stops)
    • Times
    • Tickets and passes
    • Access to transport for persons with reduced mobility
    • How to access buses and trams with bikes or pets

The average cost for one CTS ticket (valid for 1 hour) is 2.50€.

CTS also offer a three-day ticket, valid from the first day of validation for an unlimited number of trips in Strasbourg, for 10.40€. CTS tickets can be also purchased on the CTS App at a reduced cost.

  2.

Both bike and scooter sharing are convenient, ecological and cheap! The City of Strasbourg and Eurometropolis of Strasbourg offer a bike-sharing service: Vélhop. You can also find more information about other private bike rental services.

  3.

Strasbourg offers many environmentally friendly options to minimise car use. However, if you really wish to get to Strasbourg by car, take into account that Strasbourg has implemented a low-emission zone covering the city and its motorway network.

From 1 January 2023, air quality certificates, called “Crit’Air stickers”, are mandatory for all cars driving in Strasbourg. You can order a sticker for your vehicle on the Crit’Air official website. Remember to get this environmental sticker before you come to Strasbourg!

Please be aware that many accommodation options have no parking facilities and that the European Parliament car parks are unavailable during EYE2025.
